Colourful Canterbury

We have a winner!

For the past few months, Brewers have been on the hunt for decorating ideas in Canterbury that can fill community spaces and places, indoors or outdoors, with colour. Ideas that add positivity and a sense of community, especially at a time like now.

Thank you to all those who submitted an application, we received so many fantastic ideas but we’re delighted to announce that the chosen project is...Bench Trails, a functional art project from Kent College.

The project sets out to install new or recycled benches across the city, decorated with painted designs by local schools and community groups, creating a trail for people to follow and take in the city sights. Rosie Kenmir, who submitted the application for the project on behalf of Kent College, is delighted to have won and, with the help of the local Brewers Decorator Centre, is excited to move forward with the plans.

Rosie comments ‘At Kent College we are thrilled that our idea has been selected by the Colourful Canterbury project to brighten up city spaces. We can't wait to see how each participant interprets the idea and the resulting beautiful, bright benches, when they are placed around the city for all to enjoy.’

Rosie and her colleagues in the Art and History Department’s wanted to create a community project that was fun and unique but also functional to bring the wider community together. Brewers Decorator Centre in Wincheap, Canterbury, will be supplying all of the decorating supplies necessary and supporting Rosie with the project.

The judges felt that this project would really in-bed itself into the local community and there is lots of opportunity to get groups and local individuals involved. Plus the project is spread across the city, adding colour and interest in multiple locations.

Rosie and the team are currently working out all of the finer details and so keep checking back here and our facebook page for updates on how this project is progressing.
